BUS received the following request (see extract below) and spoke to Persephone Newsholme to find out a little more about this Market Research which is for a pharmaceutical company. To take part you need to:
- Have a non anterior (pan, intermediate or posterior) non-infectious uveitis such as Birdshot Uveitis.
- Currently be taking medication in some form, and this should not just be eye drops
- Rate your vision, on a scale of 1 to 100, at 80% or worse
- Age – between 18 years old and 75 years old
- Live in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland
- Be a carer for someone with this type of uveitis. Note they would need to speak to the person with uveitis first, before they speak to the carer
The Market researchers want to interview uveitis suffers either over the phone or in a few cases your home, if you live in the London area. There will be an initial conversation over the phone to make sure you fit the required criteria and then this will be followed up with a pre-arranged interview. The Market researchers are also interested in including people who have other auto-immmune diseases as well as posterior uveitis.
If you want to take part in this Market Research please get in touch with Persephone 01242 240895 or Jack Elsey 01242 248313, and don’t forget to tell them that you saw it advertised on the BUS website so we get a donation from them for your help with their survey!
BUS will only be able to find out which drug company this research is for, after the market research has taken place.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Research Invitation 6289KH Uveitis
We are looking to speak to Uveitis patients to take part in research in order to gain more insight in the condition and the treatments for it.
Understanding the ‘patient perspective’ is of paramount importance for the Pharmaceutical industry and by taking part it gives patients the chance to help shape the future of medicine.
We are looking for patients to take part in 60 minute telephone interviews. For their time and input they will receive £40 Amazon Gift certificates as honorarium.
The interviews will take place at a time convenient from 8th July – 19th July. They can also be arranged for the evening, if this preferred.
If you are happy to publish this information on your website/newsletter we can offer Birdshot Uveitis Society an donation of £30 per candidate who is successful recruited to the study via the website.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Warm regards,
Gillian Kenny Associates Ltd

Quick question…why is this research questionaire focused on England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. No big deal..but I’ve had this disease for ? (diagnosed for about 3 years) and I’m 1/2 Norwegian. Any connection? Thanks, Linda
PS,
I forgot to mention that I live in California, USA Thanks
Linda , It is a UK based market research company carrying out market research in the UK, hence their remit if for this particular geographical area as that is what their client has asked them to do. Dagmar mentioned some similar market research in the US a while back on the Le Fora Birdshot site, and that was restricted to those living in the US I believe. I think Pharamaceutical companies may be being encouraged to “consult with patients” and this is about the only way they can do this. By the way we know of a few people of Norwegian origin with Birdshot. Annie
